Abu Dhabi, UAE – In a significant step toward bolstering regional connectivity and economic growth, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates have formally agreed to strengthen their cooperation on railway modernisation.
The commitment was the highlight of a bilateral meeting between Pakistan’s Minister of State for Finance and Railways, Bilal Azhar Kayani, and the UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, H.E. Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, held on the sidelines of the Global Rail Infrastructure Conference and Exhibition in Abu Dhabi.
Key Focus on Infrastructure and Connectivity
The discussions centered on exploring opportunities to upgrade Pakistan’s rail network, which is a critical element for boosting trade, enhancing connectivity, and supporting sustainable economic growth. Minister Kayani praised the UAE’s remarkable infrastructure projects, particularly the Etihad Rail, describing it as a benchmark for regional connectivity.
A particular focus was placed on the strategic importance of modernising Pakistan’s key railway corridors, specifically the Main Line-1 (ML-1) and Main Line-3 (ML-3) projects, which are vital for aligning the national rail network with international standards.
Both ministers reaffirmed the strong, brotherly ties between Pakistan and the UAE, expressing a shared commitment to mutual prosperity and promoting environmentally responsible transport solutions in the region. The collaboration is poised to be a major driver for a more efficient, modern, and sustainable transport backbone for Pakistan. This renewed partnership signals a strong mutual desire to invest in future-ready infrastructure that will benefit both nations and the broader region.
