Snapchat Memories Paid Storage: The New 5GB Free Limit Explained

Snapchat has officially ended its era of unlimited free storage for the popular Memories feature, announcing a new Snapchat storage limit of just 5GB for all users. This significant policy shift is part of the company’s push toward monetization, requiring heavy users—those with archives built up since 2016—to now subscribe to a paid plan. If you exceed the 5GB cap, you’ll need to purchase additional space, with prices starting around $1.99/month for 100GB, or upgrade to a Snapchat+ subscription tier for more capacity. To ease the transition, the company is offering a 12-month grace period for users to either subscribe, paying the new Snapchat+ Memories cost, or download their Memories directly to their device to avoid losing their oldest content. This move aligns Snapchat with other tech giants charging for cloud services, but it forces long-time users to decide whether their digital history is worth the new monthly fee.
